Check out the VA website - or check with your county - most counties have a Veteran resource person who can find what you need and help you connect with that help. I assume you are going through the VA for your medical? The VA has personnel who can also help you with these issues. Present yourself at the information desk in the VA Hospital lobby and they will help you find the help you need. Take advantage of the many resources the VA offers...it may take time and persistence but the help is there!

At a recent IADIF/Brave New Foundation "In Their Boots" event, a representative from SWAN (Service Women's Action Network) suggested that 2nd and 3rd year law school students could help veterans by volunteering to work with them to help vets obtain their health benefits. It sounds like these students might be a good resource for you dealing with CPS and resolving your situation with your son's custody, if you have a law school located near you. You would need to contact someone in the employment/internship office there. Certainly, it is clear from your letter that you need more help and support than you have been receiving, particularly if you are going to be recovering from surgery. Please check on the "In Their Boots" site www.intheirboots.com under resources to find more help. These folks can point you in a better direction than I. Good luck, and thank you for your service. I know your son will be home with you soon.

hello -
i'd say find the local legal aide.

but if your in process of surgery and he has special needs that's a lot to handle.
as long as he's with family, things should be fine.

A lot depends on who called cps and what's on the report.

Did you ask for a copy of the report or action?
or an appeal?

GET THE WRITTEN NOTICE OF ACTION OR WHATEVER THEY ARE CALLING IT.

Did you ask for social work help at the VA?
THEY SHOULD AT LEAST BE ABLE TO GET YOU THE NOTICE and YOU CAN SEE WHAT WAS SAID AnD APPEAL IF NECESSARY.

If your family is good -while your missing the kid and this ain't best for you,
this maybe best for him right now. They TEND TO only look at the child's welfare, not yours.
