Canines for Combat Veterans, a program from NEADS/Dogs for Deaf and Disabled Americans in Princeton, MA began 2 years ago after NEADS was invited to do an in-service at Walter Reed Medical Center to demonstrate the different tasks an Assistance Dog is able to perform for returning wounded Veterans from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.

Assistance Dogs are constant companions that can alert to sound for those with hearing loss, retrieve and carry objects, open doors, help with balance difficulties, pull on socks and shoes (if necessary for their human -partner) and provide a bridge back to society. In addition, the canines helps decrease stress and reduce the sense of vulnerability the wounded Veterans may feel as a result of their injuries.

NEADS provides Canines for Wounded Veterans throughout the United States and exists solely to help those with physical and hearing complications, including PTSD.
